Privacy Policy

1. Core Principles

No account required to download, use, or learn with ParaLang.
We do not log, store, or transmit your keystrokes to any server.
All translation is powered by Apple's on-device Translation framework and runs entirely on your iPhone.
We do not sell, rent, or broker your personal data to any third party — ever.

2. Keystroke Data & Typing Activity

As a custom keyboard, user trust is our top priority. We do not log, track, or transmit your keystrokes. Any text you type is processed instantly and locally on your device for translation and quiz generation purposes only.

3. "Full Access" Keyboard & Apple's Warning

When you enable the ParaLang keyboard, Apple displays a standard iOS warning stating that "Full Access" allows the developer to transmit anything you type. We do not do this. ParaLang uses Full Access exclusively to:

Power the live on-device translation feature.
Sync your settings (theme, language, haptics) between the keyboard and the main app.
Save your phrases to the main app for practice.
Play audio feedback (click sounds & pronunciations).

We do NOT use Full Access to read passwords or upload any data to the cloud.

4. Zero-Knowledge Input & The Linguistic Shield

Our proprietary "Linguistic Shield" Filter Engine actively blocks sensitive data from ever being processed or saved. It is physically impossible to save certain types of data:

No Passwords: Apple automatically disables third-party keyboards for secure password fields.
No Numbers: We block all digits, making it impossible to store Credit Card numbers, Phone numbers, or SSNs.
No Names/Addresses: We use on-device NLP detection to block proper nouns, names, places, and organizations.
No Profanity: Offensive language is automatically filtered and discarded.

5. Transient Storage & Data Minimization

We only keep what you are actively learning. The app enforces a strict limit: we only store your last 100 translated phrases. As you learn new words, old data is permanently and securely deleted. This data is "sandboxed" in a secure iOS App Group accessible only by the ParaLang app and keyboard — never transmitted anywhere.

6. Offline Capability

Once the initial setup, specific languages, and subscription are downloaded, the translation engine and all filters run 100% offline. You may disable Cellular Data and Wi-Fi access for the ParaLang app in your iOS Settings at any time for complete peace of mind, without losing any functionality.

7. Advertising & Third-Party Services

We do not integrate data brokers, keylogging analytics tools, or cross-app tracking networks. The only external services used are:

Google AdMob (Non-Personalized Ads): Free users may see ads served by Google AdMob. We strictly enforce Non-Personalized Ads (NPA) mode, which means Google is blocked from using your Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or any personal data to build a profile or track you across other apps or websites. Ads are contextual only. No ATT (App Tracking Transparency) prompt is ever shown because no tracking occurs. For more information, see Google's Advertising Policies.
RevenueCat: An industry-standard SDK used exclusively to verify anonymous App Store subscription status. RevenueCat assigns a random anonymous identifier to your purchase record and has no access to your keyboard input, translations, or any identifiable personal information.

8. Payments & Subscriptions

All payments are processed securely by Apple via the App Store.
We do not see, handle, or store your payment card information.
We only receive an anonymous status signal: "Pro: Active" or "Pro: Inactive."

9. Your Rights & Data Control

Because all data is stored locally on your device and we collect no personal information, you are always in full control:

Access & Portability: Your phrase bank and vocabulary data exist only on your device, accessible directly in the app.
Deletion: Deleting the ParaLang app from your iPhone permanently and irrecoverably removes all associated data. There is no server-side copy to request deletion of.
No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for their own marketing or commercial purposes. California residents (CCPA) and EU/EEA residents (GDPR) can confirm: we have no personal data to disclose or delete beyond what is on your device.

10. Limitation of Liability & Mistranslations

ParaLang uses Apple's on-device Machine Translation framework to provide real-time language assistance. While we strive for accuracy, machine translation is inherently imperfect. Translations, pronunciations, and generated quizzes are offered on an "as-is" basis and are intended solely for educational, conversational, and entertainment purposes.

Never rely on ParaLang for critical, legal, medical, or life-safety documents. By using ParaLang, you explicitly agree that the developers shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, our translation services.

11. Children's Privacy

ParaLang does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). Because we collect no personal data from any user at any age, we cannot inadvertently collect children's data. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store.

12. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will post the updated version on this page and update the Effective Date above. Because we collect no contact data, we cannot notify you by email, so we encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
